International tourism generates revenue hike
Foreign currency earnings generated by international visitors to Mexico increased 7.7%, to $3.87 billion, in the first quarter of 2013 over the same period last year.
The hike is the result of a 5% jump in visitors arriving by air in Q1, to 3.5 million tourists, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
Average spend by international visitors also increased by 9.1%; spending by domestic visitors jumped 5.7%.
Mexico welcomed 23 million visitors in 2012, with the highest number coming from the U.S., followed by Canada, the U.K., Spain and South America.
